The Autumn Fairy Whisperer

Inspired by the rich autumn leaves and light on walks through the beautiful woodland close to my home in East Sussex, I decided to work on a small series of oil paintings exploring the elemental world in the fall.

I did some initial research looking at the recent 'Lord of the Rings' series, 'The Spiderwick Chronicles' and 'Cicely Mary Barker's flower fairies of the Autumn'. I also looked at the work of Susan Seddon Boulet, whose work is quite exquisite.

Working from my initial ideas, I built up some compositions within Photoshop which enables me to work really quickly and intuitively.

I wanted the fairy to maintain an ethereal transluscent quality as this is what I see when I am doing shamanic healing work. Also to show the orbs dancing in the sunlight. This was in contrast to the fox's rich earthy and fiery reds and oranges.

I have really enjoyed creating this painting after the hectic months of house hunting. It is has provided much joy, peace and healing.
