Making the most of opportunities that surround us…

With the lockdown still in operation, this has been a good time to get our houses in order and bring our attention back to the heart of our lives. For my little family, we have been busy growing seedlings for our allotment and taking advantage of the sunshine to plant them out.

‘Spirit of Field Mouse’ by Sonia Finch

I decided to do a little painting of field mice in the cornfields. The cornfields depict the grain we need to make our daily bread. One of the most basic necessities we take for granted. We plant the seeds; we tender the seedlings and then wait for the grain to ripen so we can harvest it. The field mice can be found scurrying through the fields and swinging from the kernels with perfect balance and precision. Sharing in the harvest.

Mouse reminds us to pay attention to the details that surround us and not to be so caught up in the bigger picture that we miss the opportunities right in front of our noses. The truth can be found in the details if we apply scrutiny and discernment. Mouse also tells us to move fast because events can change quickly, and opportunities can be missed if one is not alert. When danger arrives, mouse is nowhere to be seen..

With VE Day today, it's also a good time to remember those who gave our lives for our freedoms, and not to take them for granted. To protect these freedoms and bring our attention back to what is most important and essential in our lives - love, health, family, friends and the comforts of home.
