Hunting Chestnuts..

This is the second painting in the Autumn Fairy series. This time, the painting features an elf riding a squirrel as they hunt for chestnuts. They take the chestnuts to the storeroom within the large oak tree in the wood.

Working with such vibrant autumn colours has been amazing. Watching the fall landscape appear with the rich oranges, reds, yellows and browns together with the contrasting green verge in the mid-ground was fun to create. The trunk of the tree is highly textured to feel like real bark.

I was tempted to include baby squirrels within the hollow, but I felt it would tie in nicely with the Fairy Tree painting to reveal the storeroom where the chestnuts are kept. Sometimes the painting kind of reveals what it wants...
