In this painting, I wanted to explore the fairy role of protector during the hibernation time - particularly January when it is really cold and the light days are short. I chose the hedgehog because it is one of my most favourite visitors to the garden and it's colours and textures are beautiful when contrasted with the crispy autumn leaves.
Dreaming is a state that is known to be a place where spirits can communicate with you. Fairy mythology shows that fairies can take a guardianship role, whether it be to a tree, flower, or being. During hybernation, their work must be cut out to ensure that their wards are kept safe and well.
Here is my painting. I hope you like it.
'Winter Fairy Guardian of Dreams' is an original oil painting on 30x30x1.5cm stretched canvas with painted wraparound edges. It is also available as a Limited Edition Giclée Print and Greeting Card.
