Butterfly and transformation..

A few years ago I was amazed to have a peacock butterfly land on my hand as I worked on my allotment in late October and it refused to move away. I didn’t know that butterflies could last in such cold temperatures, but this one did. I had never appreciated the luminosity of their colourings until then. So I decided to feature the butterfly on one of my paintings.
Back then, I was only dreaming of becoming a self-employed artist / illustrator. I didn’t think it was possible, as I had generally stayed on the graphic design and lecturer path. So this butterfly was quite significant for me at the time.
It is said that the egg stage represents an idea. The caterpillar represents the research stage, when one consumes as much knowledge as possible to lay the foundations. Then the chrysalis stage represents a time of deep thought and contemplation – making careful plans that come together as a butterfly emerges from the chrysalis – fully formed and beautiful and searching for new places to place her eggs. For me the new places were my canvases on which to place my creations…
